GRAUERS Cafe and Wine
The cat running this place has every single record Bill Grauer ever produced which includes Orin Keepnews' productions as well. His wall shelf was filled with Jazz records. Thousands of Jazz records. I got there around two o'clock and took a seat to stare at the two huge prints of Miles and Monk captured by Hozumi Nakadaria that hung on the dark walls. Served me a cup of single freshly brewed coffee. I take it black. The bitterness was piquant as the keening brass of Blue Mitchell trumpet blaring through the speakers. I loved this spot!

A conversation. Diegetic.
John Coltrane and Duke Ellington playing. A working woman stops in for a late lunch. A barkeep serves a Kara-Age Bento. Idol chatter ensues. A suggested Tommy Flanagan Trio record is played. A salaryman enters and orders Steak

Kabo Jazz Cafe
A lovely little cafe in downtown Sendai, Japan. It has been opened for 43 years. I didn't catch the barkeep's name, but asked me, "Do you like Bud Powell?" She pulled off 'The Scene Changes' from the record shelf and put it on the turntable. So began my afternoon. I ordered an Asahi and listened to Bud Powell.
